Staff, construction manager and architect have toured a variety of aquatic facilities in surrounding communitites.



The Board of Park Commissioners met with staff, architects and the construction manager at the site of the new community pool to discuss plans for the new pool.

Timeline

February 5 - Lombard Park District residents pass a referendum that supports the construction of a new community pool.

February 12 - The Board of Park Commissioners recommit their preference for conceptual plan 3.2 (see left).

February 19 - LPD staff meet with a construction manager and architect to begin establishing a timeline, consider alternatives for project including sand play area, utilities and demolition preparation.

February 26 - FGM Architects presented information on development of the Lombard community pool. Demolition and separating the utilities would be phase one and phase two would be construction. A Village zoning, building and engineering meeting took place to discuss a public hearing. Additionally, FGM Architects met with staff for a few changes to the pool that they will bring back to the board. Phase One demolition is expected to begin mid-June.

March 6 - Reviewed 3 bathhouse designs and selected one to use for the project. Discussed system requirements for operating pool including filtration and pumps and types of gutter systems.

March 13 - Discussed pool features and depth of water. Enhanced bathhouse layout including highlighting admissions, pool manager and concessions.

April 3 - Reviewed site, aquatic and building designs. Discussed landscaping and current pool sizes.

April 11 - Layed-out concession stand in the Lombard Community Building to visualize size and specifics of building.

April 17 - Reviewed different play features for leisure and tot pools.

April 24 - Firmed-up play features so that pool mechanical plans can be finalized.

May 1 - Discussed purchasing of accessories for bathhouse and pool as well as pool markings and cosmetic features of all pools.

May 9 - Reviewed 90% complete plans.

May 22 - Reviewed draft of 95% plans and raw materials for construction. Also reviewed budget and timeline of project. Reviewed Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment (FFE) that the Park District will providing. Discussed site conditions and reiterated staffs opinion of saving as many of the mature trees and vegetation as possible during construction process.

May 30 - Staff and Corporate Construction discussed the 95% plans in detail and developed numerous questions regarding engineering and architectural features of facility.

June 5 - Discussed questions that staff developed from the May 30 meeting.

June 6 - Sent plans for permitting to Illinois Department of Public Health.

July 1 - Advertised the bid for demolition. Executive Director Paul Friedrichs, Architect John Dzarnowski and staff from Counsilman-Hunsaker met with Il. Dept. of Health in Springfield to discuss pool plans.

July 17 - Bids for demolition due by 1 p.m. and opened thereafter.

July 22 - Alpine Demolition Services awarded demoliton contract.

July 25 - Village of Lombard issues the demolition permit.

July 28 - Demolition of Moran Water Park begins. See Picture Here!

August 5 - Opened all submitted bids.

August 5 - Board of Park Commissioners approved the Excavation and Paving Bid.

August 11 - Village of Lombard issues the footing and foundation permit.

August 12 - Board of Park Commissioners approved all remaining bids. Click here to view a sampling of the play features for the new water park.
